L Pierre

You can read my review of L. Pierre's latest single at Angry Ape. Took me about as long to write the piece as it did for Mr Moffat to pen and record the song.

Modest Eyes

Went to see the Modest Mouse + Bright Eyes show at Shepherds Bush last night. Would love to write it up, but just don't have the damn time at the moment. More and more I find myself as entertained by the crowds at gigs as I am by the performers themselves. That's no slight on MM and BE, but there was a really weird mix of people there last night. The person who sticks in my mind the most has to be the old skinhead guy who pogoed through the whole of Modest Mouse's set, fist in the air, yelling out requests in-between songs and generally terrifying everyone around him. Once their set was over, he threatened to beat up some indie kid and then prompty left. Very odd! And the whole time there was a couple of sixteen year-olds next to him, completely oblivious to the madman, snogging their way through 40 mins of MM. It was pretty funny. Then, during the Bright Eyes set, football fever took over the venue. Why? I've no idea! But everytime Mr Oberst finished a song, the crowd would cheer and then spontaneously the upper stalls would start chanting "Roooooney! Rooooney!!" As an American onstage, I would have been extremely confused!

Into the White...

Finally got my Pixies review done and up...for some reason I found it quite difficult to write about this particular gig. Maybe because I was enjoying it too much to make notes or anything like that. Anyway, here it is at Drowned in Sound.

Sunburrrned

Sunburned Hand of the Man played in town last week and I went to see 'em. They were pretty boring live which is a shame because I think their records are great (when you can get hold of them). I reviewed the show for Drowned in Sound.
